Now for the real entry:
This week has been perhaps one of the longest weeks of my life thus far. So much has happened, and yet not that much. Just bear with me here.
Being away from home has been a strange adjustment. The first couple of nights I hear every single noise because when i was at home that would mean someone (mom) is coming down the hall to ask me to do something.
Our AC in the dorm room isn't working, well currently it is on, but that is bc we just had a guy some and cut some wire or something i don't know. It hasnt worked the entire time i've been here. It was 79 degrees in here this morning and i just was about to go jump someone if they were goign to tell me to put in another work order. Imean i've already putin 5!!!!!!! The guy that came about an hour ago said we weren't even on his list! Tanya and I were looking at each other like, what HAVE they been doing with these workorders? But dad talked with the front desk and since he is a parent they looked in to it alot quicker than when it was just me and Tanya complainign and filling out work orders. The hall is nice, so we prop the door open and have the fan pull the air in, but it still stays about 77 degrees normally. That really sucked when we walked to and from Winstead's adn were really hot despite our large beverages (chocolate coke YUM). So we have been keeping the windows open which has been hard with all the rain. I woke up one mornign at 4 and had to close them bc i was getting wet. (my bed it right along the wall with the windows)
I am all moved in , well pretty much, not all my clothes are with me but they will be since i'm going home this weekend and probably will be labor day weekend as well. Our room is small but comfy. My bed is 3 and a half feet off the grond with my dresser under it, so i have a little cube to help get in and out of bed. *shakes head* I have the most amazing view of the front of the Nelson Art Gallery. Once i get batteries for my web cam i'm going to try and get a pic of my view on here. It is just awesome.
yesteday Josh Levin came over and visited. He ships out in a month, has no hair, and seems...a lot older. Its amazing what all can happen in a summer. He loved my view too. We visited for a while but he had to be somewhere not long after he was able to stop by here so we didn't get to talk long. He has definitely changed, but i hope we can stay in touch because he is a great person.
Shout out to my Aunt Cheryl and Uncle Joe for the pizza money! Your awesome, I love you!!!!!!!!!
My schedule is pretty good, no classes too close together. It just sucks that the only gen chem class is at 7:40am MWF, but i guess it will keep me on the right track so i won't stay out to late and stuff...maybe...hopefully. I already have a speech due Monday for Public Speaking which really sucks, but my partner that i am to give the speech about is really cool and we seem to have a lot in common. Into to poetry is a sophomore class since i had taken IB english...and it isn't going to be easy either. 2 page paper due next class period. Over what i don't know because she didn't say, so hopefully its one the class outline, or in the text we're suppose to read? i dunno. I have a chem lab that i am not sure of bc the proffessor wasn't there monday but out of town, and this other class called "Meth/Lib Arts: thers & Appl" so i'm not sure about that. the book for that class is called "bioethical issues" and this is suppose to be for pre-health majors but other than that i'm not sure what i'm to be learning. So 14 credit hours isn't keeping me too busy, but is keeping me on my toes.
Wednesday afternoons Meg and i will be able to do stuff and friday afternoons Tanya and i will be able to do stuff. Tanya is my roomy, from Houston, and we are going to try to use the metro because neither of us currently have a vehicle. She is tryign to get one before December though.
I haven't heard from Jake since Monday i believe when he called me back about a calculator operation question i had about Tanya's calc. He had called me earlier to see how my first classes had gone. I called him yester day as it was his first day of classes but just left a message. So I guess things are going well?.. I am definitely wanting to see people this weekend, so if Jake decides not to get together as we had planned then I definitely want to get together with other friends.
I talked to Meg last night since my keyboard was messing up again and i could 't type on msn. She had an art project and needed to go to kinko's. In the midst of the conversation the fire alarm goes off for the first time, and it is freakin loud, like the new ones they put in last year at Sumner and we have one of those thingy that make the loud ass noise right above our microwave between our desks. We had just got back from getting food to eat while watching "scary movie 2" so i called her back during the 20 min it seemed that they made us stand outside. And then the ones this morning... ugh! Tanya said last year in the dorms at Houston the alarm was pulled over 15 times! And the first time was at 3am the day before the first day of classes. That had to suck! But she said they would play frisbee in the hall and it would knock in to them and stuff. I dont' even know where a fire alarm pull thing is...
The cafeteria here is...ok i guess. Every meal is about $5 once u get a drink. the cheapes drink is $1.19. I've just been drinking my already paid for bottled water. One of the frappucino starbucks drinks is $1.99. Its crazy i tell u CRAZY.
The campus isn't as big as i thought it was so i can pretty much walk from one side to the other in 15 or less depending on which building. And so far i have only gotton lost once, and it was only momentarily so my directionally impaired skills are getting better.
They have so much going on this first week of class. Today both of MY classes were canceled because it is "Celebrate UMKC" day the "Day of Learning" as they call it. Ironic that we aren't in class "learning" but thats ok with me. Tonight there is a street fair, or carnival type thing, and then at 8 there is a foam party in the playhouse so that should be fun. It just sucks that i have class at 7:40 and u have to get there by at least 7:20 to get a decent seat.
wow i can hardly believe i have typed this much, but i guess i just got on a roll and such.
